IWRM Super Rugby – Round 3 Tips Due

This has been a great week for Pacific IWRM. Tuvalu's new film "Falevatia: A toilet for our future" has received quite a lot of media attention. Pisi Seleganiu did a great interview with Radio New Zealand and David Duncan answered a few questions on composting toilets on ABC Radio Australia. Tiy is sourcing the audio clips of the interviews to hopefully share next week.

Latest @ the "Kava Bowl" - the project’s mid-term reviewer, Dr. Peter Whalley dropped by the Kava Bowl this week to kindly provide a brief update for us all – click here. We are really lucky to have Peter helping the project at this critical stage, so do check out his update which contains a few photos of him being introduced to our favourite drink by Vinesh and Maureen – photos here.

Round 3 Tips - these are due by Friday afternoon but best to get them in a day or two early. The games this week are:

    Force v. Hurricanes
    Brumbies v. Cheetahs
    Highlanders v. Waratahs
    Reds v. Rebels
    Sharks v. Lions
    Bulls v. Blues

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 3 Results

They're doing it again – Team Palau is teaching the Pacific region a lesson in rugby! Palau's Sim Tellei tipped another good round and now holds equal first place in the open category with Eliki from SOPAC, Christian from GEF Sec, and Quan Chung. Palau's Demonstration Project Manager, Ms. Lynna Thomas also had a great round and has rocketed to the top of the project manager category. The South Pacific teams need to get serious - Team Palau is well on their way to making it two in a row in the country category! More results below.

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 4 Results

A tough round for the serious tipsters although Maureen Hazelman of the Nadi Basin IWRM project here in Fiji seems to have the winning formula and has rocketed into the lead of the overall competition. Team Palau is still going well in the team category, but Niue and Samoa are only a few points behind. Now is the time to strengthen your national teams – new players get an average point start.

It is another big week for water with World Water Day falling on this Thursday, 22 March. The 2011 audits of the national IWRM demonstration projects also kick off this week and national project managers and focal points are urged to ensure all project reports and supporting documents are ready for the auditors upon their arrival!

More Water and Cheaper Please: this week the Kava Bowl features an article on Water Use Efficiency by David Duncan. IWRM Super Rugby – Round 5 Results

Important Notice: We are nearing the end of Quarter 1 2012 and as Easter falls around our Q1 reporting deadline country teams are urged to ensure all reports are finalised and submitted to the Regional Project Coordinating Unit before the Easter break.
The rugby sure isn't getting any easier to pick. Only 1 player tipped a perfect Round 5 – hats off to Vinesh Kumar of Fiji for that. It seems Team Niue is getting serious and has sent a warning message from the rock of Polynesia to the rock islands of Micronesia – after a great Round 5 Niue has rocketed into the lead of the team category, followed by Samoa, with Palau third. Niue's Andre Siohane has also taken the lead of Demonstration Project Manager category, and Kitiona Igatia (Samoa) and Chad Siakimotu (Niue) are equal first in the overall category on 50 points.

It was also a big week with World Water Day (WWD) last Thursday. There was an article on WWD on the SPC website but all the real news was here in the Kava Bowl with country teams posting updates and photo journals of their activities. Marc Wilson has informed the Pacific IWRM network that there will be a prize for the best World Water Day 2012 photo submitted to the Kava Bowl by 5th April. The prize will be awarded at the 4th Regional Steering Committee meeting to be convened in Nadi, Fiji (30th July - 3rd August). So far Tonga, Tuvalu, Palau, Nauru, and FSM have shared some of their photos. Check out all the WWD news and photos here:

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 6 Results

Important Notice: we have reached the end of Quarter 1 2012 and Q1 reports are due this week. Project Managers and Focal Points are urged to ensure these reports are submitted well before Good Friday. An online upload facility has been established on Pacific-IWRM.org to help streamline the report submission process – although still send all reports to gefiwrm@sopac.org.
This week Team Niue has been joined by Team Palau in the lead of the team category. Niue’s Andre Siohane and Palau’s Lynna Thomas are also equal first in the demonstration project category. The rock island nations of Polynesia and Micronesia are really stamping their authority on the competition again this year – can we expect more from some of the big rugby countries?

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 7 Results

Team Samoa put in a solid Round 7 and finds itself in the lead after the Easter long weekend. Chad Siakimotu of Niue has snuck into the overall lead of the competition's individual category on 70 points – although another quality tipster is only two points behind him on 68. We all better keep on eye on Team Bakani – Vere scored a perfect Round 7 and has 3 other family members sitting with her in the overall Top 20. Project Managers must have been caught up with their quarterly reports as the leaders of this competition category took a slide out of the Top 20 this week.

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 10 Results and Round 11 Tips Due

Greetings all! I have been away for a few weeks and was surprised on my return by all the great news coming out of the Pacific IWRM initiative. This news is being added to the home page and Kava Bowl - so please check out the Kava Bowl news links below.

It is also great to see Team Niue taking off to a strong lead in the IWRM Super Rugby Competition. Deve and Andre have a big team of committed players and are much deserved leaders of the country team category. Andre (Niue) and Lynna (Palau) are equal first in the demonstration project manager category. Niue's Chad Siakimotu has a two game lead on the rest of the pack in the overall category.

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 11 Results

A good number of players tipped a perfect Round 11. Teams Wilson, Bakani, Sokota and Chung make up a good number of the top 20 players, whilst Team Niue maintains a solid lead over Team Samoa in the country category. Lynna Thomas has snuck to a one game lead in the demonstration project manager category.

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 12 Results

Another fun weekend of rugby, particularly enjoyed the Reds toppling the Chiefs, but the real action was at the Rugby 7s in London where Fiji beat Samoa in the cup final. Great to see the PI teams showing the Poms how it’s done!

The Polynesian teams are starting to demonstrate their rugby prowess in our IWRM rugby comp and hold top 3 spots in the country team category – more results below. A big congrats is due to Team Sokota for the recent addition to their team last week – a baby girl!

We hope most of you have taken the time to check out the Draft Mid-Term Review Report for the GEF Pacific IWRM Project. If not, please check it out and share it with your colleagues – click here. UNEP is seeking comment by 30th May 2012.

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 16 Tips Due

We hope you all enjoyed the International Rugby series over the past few weeks. The Super 15s competition starts up again this weekend for the last 3 rounds before the finals. There has been lots of IWRM work underway during the break, with some great recent news from Pohnpei Island and Majuro Atoll in the North Pacific.

    IWRM Rugby Results
All categories of the IWRM competition are close again this year with Niue, Samoa, Tonga, and Palau all in the running for the country prize. Chad from Niue is only 2 correct tips in front of a big bunch of players in the overall category, and Lynna (Palau) and Andre (Niue) are close in the demonstration project manager category. Niue looks very dominant and the hot gossip here in Suva is that they are planning a last minute run for the 2012 trifecta – we’ll see!

IWRM Super Rugby – Round 16 Results

The third last round of the IWRM Super Rugby involved one or two upsets – this has brought the top tipsters a bit closer together to set up another exciting end to the competition this year. Chad’s overall lead has been reeled in to just 2 points or 1 correct game away from Arieta Sokota and Olivia Bakani. Niue’s lead in the country team category has stretched out to 13 points from Samoa. Only two correct games in the demonstration project manager category also.
